The Final String

It was the end of an era. A decade long journey that would end, the same as it begin, with a roll of toilet paper.

10 years ago it was Linus who bitterly sat staring at a roll long forgotten on the floor.

This time it was on the holder in the wall, in different house, in a different town.

This time it was Bella staring at it. Not really thinking about anything at all

 In the wake of what had sneakily become a long arduous journey cured with small changes made one at a time. Her life had attained a reasonable amount of peace. Something that she had never dealt with before. Something that she realized she had been craving this whole time.

It was laid-back.

It was liberating.

It was lovely.

It was done.

To paraphrase T.S Eliot. “Not with a bang but with a whisper” did this end.

Bella reached out and spun the roll mindlessly as she brushed her teeth.

A simply as Linus had pulled the first, Bella pulled the last and severed the final string in the disentanglement of Bella and Linus
