it was the journey home. They had made this drive what seemed like a hundred times. Middle of winter in the north. Everything this beautiful mix if whites, purples and greys. The sublte blues of twilight were beggining to descend on them and the highway.
Bambam was looking down at her phone, scrolling some nonsense. Her mother had been half talking to her and half to herself about some plan for when they got home.
Suddenly Bella gasped and Bambam felt the car slow. The energy shift in the car was loud and uncomfortable. It startled Bambam, she looked up at the road.
The bridge was gone.
Not destroyed, not closed.
Fucking gone.
She whipped her head towards her mother who was already looking at her.
Bella slowed the car even more,. As they neared the bridge, the air shimmered and the bridge returned.
Bambam felt the car accelerate as they raced over the bridge, neither daring to look back.
“Tell me you saw that” her mom, uttered quietly as to not disturb the delicate peace of the situation.
Bambam nodded, unable to find words.
